YouTube’s Creator Management & Ops Team Faces Layoffs as 100 Employees are Let Go

Google-owned YouTube is reportedly laying off at least 100 employees from its management and operations teams for content producers.

YouTube’s Business Director Mary Ellen Coe announced the layoffs internally, according to Tubefilter. “YouTube is consolidating its content creator management team under centralized management in each country,” the report states.

YouTube’s music and support teams have also reportedly been reorganized. In an internal staff memo, Coe said these changes are intended to streamline YouTube’s business operations.

However, he did not reveal how many employees this affects. “As we’ve seen over the past few years, our creator base is expanding and diversifying from our most experienced creators to a new generation of casual creators publishing on YouTube for the first time,” Coe wrote.

“Gen AI tools will further fuel new forms of creativity and bring even more creators to the platform,” he added. Meanwhile, “our subscription business is gaining momentum thanks to partnerships with music, sports and media companies.”

“As the business evolves, we have an even greater need to ensure that we run the business efficiently and meet the needs of all our users,” Coe told employees. Those who have been laid off have the opportunity to apply for other roles on YouTube. “However, it was not clear whether they would be guaranteed new positions in the company”.

“Each of you has been a valued and meaningful part of our team, and we are here to support you as you consider your next steps,” Coe said.
